Isolation within Isolation
I wonder how all my BPD sufferers are coping with the Covid 19 pandemic!
Life has changed so much in such a few short weeks. I was half way through my two year DPD course which we are trying to continue online but it is proving difficult and frustrating at times.
I spent 48 hours in a psychiatric acute care hospital and I think I contracted the virus there as I was ill for a month after I returned home and the ward was filthy.
“Mental health units could be hit with a surge in cases of Covid-19 because staff cannot get the protective
equipment or testing they need, psychiatrists have warned.
Deaths among patients and mental health personnel could potentially end up as high as in care homes, the Royal College of Psychiatrists says.
“Without access to testing kits and the right protective equipment I fear we could see a care-home style crisis sweeping through mental health units, with many patients and staff contracting the virus,” Prof Wendy Burn, the college’s president, said.”
I have been told that there is a Covid ward and a non-Covid ward at my hospital and care is available as usual but I certainly do not feel safe in my local psyche unit at the best of times and would not happily agree to admission during this crisis even if I felt desperate.
