The Future for BPD Sufferers

 The magic question

Why do BPD sufferers fail to recover?

One thing that might happen if a patient with BPD got better: their families would run for the hills. Exile them. Shun them. Abandon them. Anyone wonder why those with BPD have “abandonment issues?” Wonder no more.

It is unfortunate that only a small percentage of patients with BPD achieve remission of clinical conditions, most notable affective symptoms, which reflect loneliness, feelings of emptiness, and impaired psychosocial functioning. So although no longer presenting as classically life threatening, life is obviously not productive. So how do we change this?

Although numerous studies have demonstrated the value of DBT for the treatment of stage one and two BPD, there is a notable knowledge gap regarding the value of DBT for stages three and four. Although some preliminary evidence suggests that positive psychology, loving-kindness and self-compassion exercises might be useful, more data are needed to support their use.

So how do us older BPD suffefrers keep going and keep hope. Taking pleasure from the tiniest things and congratulating ourselves for another mountain,(another day). Maybe it is all we have right now. Just sometimes I see something, hear something, feel something that makes the climb worthwhile.
