When A BPD Sufferer Dies

The Reality is sometimes we die and so young!

Some studies show that as many as 80 percent of people with BPD exhibit suicidal intentions and around 70 percent of BPD patients will attempt suicide at least once.

Suffering amongst BPD sufferers is the high and there is a constant risk of suicide and suicide attempts. However, it is almost possible to predict the outcome for individual patients and they may struggle to appreciate their own future outcomes. Mood transitions are rapid and severewhich can mean that a patient who feels incapable of continuing living one day may feel releived to have survived even the most serious suicide attempts the next. Impulsivity includes experiences such as decreased time to make decisions and less consideration paid to consequences.

Cognitive distortions may occur in individuals without a mental disorder. However, their occurrence in BPD may impact capacity to make appropriate decisions and so medical intervention in terms of forced hospitalization may be appropriate at times. No-one likes the idea of being hospitalized but there are times when I feel appreciative of having the power and control lifted from my shoulders.
